The iSchools Project team of Laguna University (LU) deployed 21 units of computers to the six beneficiary schools last February 19, 2008.
As first time users of the technology, the teachers and the students, this move prepares them to explore and discover the exciting world of computers that would aid them in their teaching-learning environment and keep them abreast with the latest news and development all over the world.
The recipient public schools include the following:
· Plaridel National High School (NHS) in Nagcarlan
· ,Lumot National High School in Cavinti
· Siniloan National High School in Siniloan
· Balian National High School in Pakil,
· San Francisco National High School (Extension) in Victoria
· Don Manuel Rivera Memorial High School in Pila
Some of the beneficiary schools experienced problems. “Balian NHS has no computer laboratory yet to house the computer equipment. Also, the electric connection is not yet installed. In Lumot NHS, one computer unit was not working. For San Francisco NHS and Plaridel NHS, some computers bogged down,” says LU ICT coordinator Mayra Ambrocio. “At present, the teacher’s training has just finished in Plaridel NHS. The other schools are still preparing for the rollout of the teacher’s training that will train the .public secondary teachers on computer and internet literacy course,” adds Ambrocio.
The deployment of the computers is part of the Commission on Information and Communication Technology (CICT) i-Schools Project. Since the six schools were chosen as beneficiaries of LU, each schools were provided with 21 computers with a printer, a multimedia equipment and server.

LU implements iSchools
The Laguna University (LU) is the first and only locally funded educational institution that had an accord with the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) last July 16, 2007. The others are from state colleges and universities which draw funds from the national government.
The CICT’s iSchools aims to improve the learning and instruction of public high schools through Information and Communication Technology (ICT). LU’s role is to conduct site monitoring and evaluation and community mobilization of the recipient schools; provide technical assistance; facilitate documentation; plan, conduct, and manage educators’ training and its required training logistics; designate an ICT coordinator; and provide the Project Management Group (PMG). The PMG will be the one providing the technical report specify
ing the number of participants who attended and the results of the participants’/students’ training evaluation at the conclusion of each training/seminar conducted.
“This pact is very timely. With the trend on globalization, it is a must that schools be provided with the much needed technical skills particularly in information and communication technology to cope with the fast-changing environment,” says Chair and President Teresita S. Lazaro.
At present, there are five professors who passed the International Computer Driver’s License (ICDL) examination who will train the teachers from the six recipient high schools in the province. These are ICT Coordinator Loven Garcia, Prof. Mayra Ambrocio, Prof. Joy Esperanza, Prof. Ma. Bernadette Ramos, and Prof. Cecile Adefuin.
The recipient schools include:
· Siniloan National High School
· Balian National High School
· Lumot National High School Extension
· Lingga National High School Annex
· San Francisco National High School Annex.
LU has already conducted orientation for sustainability planning workshop at Faith Training Center, Sta. Cruz, Laguna on October 20, 2007. The principals of the recipient schools, local government units representatives attended the said seminar.
