Six public schools in Laguna receive 21 computers

The iSchools Project team of Laguna University (LU) deployed 21 units of computers to the six beneficiary schools last February 19, 2008.

As first time users of the technology, the teachers and the students, this move prepares them to explore and discover the exciting world of computers that would aid them in their teaching-learning environment and keep them abreast with the latest news and development all over the world.

The recipient public schools include the following:

· Plaridel National High School (NHS) in Nagcarlan
· ,Lumot National High School in Cavinti
· Siniloan National High School in Siniloan
· Balian National High School in Pakil,
· San Francisco National High School (Extension) in Victoria
· Don Manuel Rivera Memorial High School in Pila

Some of the beneficiary schools experienced problems. “Balian NHS has no computer laboratory yet to house the computer equipment. Also, the electric connection is not yet installed. In Lumot NHS, one computer unit was not working. For San Francisco NHS and Plaridel NHS, some computers bogged down,” says LU ICT coordinator Mayra Ambrocio. “At present, the teacher’s training has just finished in Plaridel NHS. The other schools are still preparing for the rollout of the teacher’s training that will train the .public secondary teachers on computer and internet literacy course,” adds Ambrocio.

The deployment of the computers is part of the Commission on Information and Communication Technology (CICT) i-Schools Project. Since the six schools were chosen as beneficiaries of LU, each schools were provided with 21 computers with a printer, a multimedia equipment and server.
